Dear Learn & Perform Subscriber

Here is the July E news. It is 10 days since The Asia HRDCongress 2012 was held in Bengaluru, India. It was a good feeling - 349 participants from 17 countries. The Mayor of Bengaluru, President Fidel Ramos and Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor, the wife of the Honourable Prime Minister of Malaysia graced the event. Participants were indeed excited to have the real Asia HRDCongress in India. The Conference was good and the Awards were spectacular with 14 recipients. Now to the E news:

The legacy of Stephen Covey

The legendary author of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, passed awayon July 16th at the age of 79, due to complications arising from a bicycle accident. Greg McKeown writing in the Harvard Business Review blog remarked that with than 20 million books sold, Covey has clearly been one of the most widely read management thinkers of the last thirty years. The 7 Habits alone has been published in 38 languages. At the height of his fame he was named one of Time magazine's 25 Most Influential Americans. Greg McKeown states that what captured him were the words - "Follow not in the footsteps of the masters, but rather seek what they sought." Stephen Covey sought to shake corrupted assumptions embedded in organisations everywhere. He believed in teaching children to be leaders. Stephen aimed to be a light, not a critic. He states Covey’s vision is worthy of emulation – ‘There are many who want to be like Stephen Covey. There are many who didn't like the way his ideas were expressed or applied”. But Stephen was a man who was in the arena trying to teach and make a difference. In this pursuit, I do aspire to be like him.’ Full article:
