Welcome to the 2014 September E-News!

August was a month of attending the weddings. The children of several of my friends were married and while observing the marriage practices, I learned so much about the various cultural practices. My friends were highly successful people with great habits. They also had planned their succession very well. This is what got me to share these two highly relevant articles in this month’s e news.

Ten Morning Habits of Highly Successful People that Make Them Extraordinary

This article on Productivity by Lianne Martha Maiquez Laroya outlines the ten habits that makes highly successful people less stressed, happier and more productive. Lianne says they know that their personal priorities are worth more than other people’s priorities. Upon waking up, these significantly successful professionals don’t immediately check their email – they make it a point to claim the early hours of the day as their “me” time. After all, these extraordinary people believe that if their priority needs to be done, then it has to be done first.  What do highly successful entrepreneurs and executives do upon waking up in the morning? I have posted the article at https://www.facebook.com/palanr

You may also find the ideas in The Global Journey of an Asian resonate with the article. The book is available at http://www.mphonline.com/books/nsearchdetails.aspx?&pcode=9781599324876

Succession Plan Well Done: The Larry Ellison Example

In this article by Josh Bersin, he outlines the challenges of founders stepping down. Josh Bersin refers to pioneering technology founders like Bill Gates of Microsoft, Andy Grove of Intel, Steve Jobs of Apple, Larry Page and Sergey Brin of Google and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook. Each held (or still hold) onto their companies as long as they possibly can.

Why? Because successful founders define their identity around their company and often single handedly create the culture, product strategy, and marketing vision that drives success. Josh Bersin says he has personal experience in this area, so he completely understands the dynamics. I too totally understand the dynamics. This week one of the most iconic and successful CEOs in our time, Larry Ellison, announced his decision to step down from his direct operational role running Oracle. For those of us who have been in the technology industry for years, the story of Oracle is amazing.

Succession Planning is a structured process and it can be done well provided the company has the resolve.
