It was nice getting back to the heat of Kuala Lumpur. Former National Speakers Association President Scott Friedman hosted me at his lovely home near the Boulder Mountains, Denver, Colorado. The breathtaking view of the mountains was enough to leave me charged up for the long and grueling long flight from Los Angeles to Kuala Lumpur.

From Average to Awesome: Lessons for Living an Extraordinary Life

My friend and Asia HRDCongress speaker Jim Smith Jr has incredible energy and enthusiasm that is contagious.  His book From Average to Awesome is a must to read for any HR professional. The book is reader friendly as you can almost start or stop anywhere. It is not a book that is linear or one that advocates a step by step approach. Jim says success is not based on a linear model. There are dozens of uplifting true-life stories that tell how others have catapulted themselves from mediocrity to stellar achievement. Just like his live training sessions, Jim’s book is awesome. Time for Performance Appraisals

The time for performance appraisals is around the corner. While performance appraisals can be evaluative or developmental, it has largely remained as a once in a year chore for most organisations. Nevertheless recent developments have re-imposed organisational faith in performance appraisals. While most large organisations use enterprise solutions to complete their appraisals, this has been frustrating for many organisations due to the complexities involved in using appraisal systems. With on line tools available on the web, performance appraisals have become more job related and easier to use and administer across the organisation. Mentoring : Creating A New Mindset

Randy Emelo remarks that mentoring has proven to be an effective workforce development tool. 88% of open mentoring users have attributed productivity increases due to their mentoring programmes. Sam Silverstein, President of the Accountability Academy says the underlying factor behind both the mentoring programmes and the productivity increases is due to the accountability culture prevailing within an organisation.
