Putting Talent Management on the Board’s Agenda
Most organisations focus on the bottom line often leaving issues such as talent management to the Human Resources department. Recently, successful organisations have shown that a focus just on financials is not enough; putting the spotlight on talent and succession is critical at the Board level for the long term sustainability of the organisation. The directors today have a greater responsibility than before and it is a pre requisite for Boards to have talent and succession on the agenda of every board meeting. The recent issue of HR Asia highlights this critical issue. Professor Dave Ulrich has pointed out that HR being at the table is not enough. HR has to focus on the outcomes and align with the business. HR leadership has to play a role in bringing to the board’s, the importance of Talent for the organisation’s prosperity. Several outstanding speakers representing great organisations will present at the Asia HRDCongress will focus on this vital topic: Chris Brooks from Philip Morris International, Sujaya Banerjee from Essar Group, Risa Praptino, Asian Training Hub, Prof Dr Sheikh Ghazali, Sime Darby to name a few. HRDPower on the Web
HRDPower on the web is a cost effective tool to manage talent and succession in an organisation. The competency based system ensures the organisational pipeline, more importantly as Jim Collins, the author of Good to Great remarked that great companies have the right person in the right seat. The system does not require you to spend massive amounts to have a talent management system. For a small investment you will have a system that has been tested and tried by many organisations. Added with functional expertise it will be a powerful combination. Please contact azaath@smrhrgroup.com for more details.
Leadership Effectiveness Index
Aparna Nancherta writing on Leadership Trends in the T & D magazine from the American Society of Training & Development says careless decisions made by senior executives have far reaching consequences for the company. A report conducted by Kenexa Research Institute (KRI) shows that the current rating of global senior leadership effectiveness is about 51 percent. With confidence in leadership so inextricably tied to an employee’s engagement at work, this result is a likely indicator for high turnover unless leaders take action to build trust says Brenda Kowske, a research manager at KRI.
International author and trainer Karen Lawson will lead the experts on tackling this subject at the Asia HRD Congress. She will speak on Leadership Accountability. Several other outstanding speakers will also present outstanding case studies.
